A Day Trip To Mingora, Bahrain and Malam Jabba in Swat, Pakistan - May 2015

Well, Swat is clean now ...... the abundant presence of army scares you initially and brings back memories of Taliban rule of the valley ..... though, after sometime, you get relaxed and after a few hours, you start feeling much better ....... though, the trend of extremism expressed by "a certain huliya" of locals is too prominent and still present .... this isn't the case in Kaghan / Kashmir side ....... i suppose Swat valley got seriously hit by extremism ........ lets hope it recovers fast ....... the attitude of Army personnel was cordial, professional and felt g8 as compared to punjab pulse ....... I tried to reach Kalam but road after Bahrain (last 38 Kms out of 100Kms from Mingora) were terrible and i had to abandon the plan within first 5 Kms from Bahrain ....... the real surprise was the construction of motorway between Fatehpur (around 30 Kms from Mingora towards Kalam) and Bahrain (about 40Kms of length i suppose) ..... amazing road ...... better than Murree Expressway ....... once it gets completed between Mingora and Kalam, the travel time from Islamabad to Kalam shall easily reduce to 5:30 to 6 hours (it is 9 hours+ right now) ........ ohhhhh!!!!!! Malam Jabba was awesome ........ what a place ........ first sight love ...... a must visit ........ via motorway, Mingora is around 4 hours from Islamabad and Malam Jabba is 1.5 hour up from Mingora ......... i shall share the pics tomorrow ....... it was an adventure comprising 19 hours with approximately 17 hours of driving and 1 hour of hiking (the whole ski slope till the top) ...... ahhhh!!!!! dat was tough ...... cheers

The road up from Malakand Agency towards Mingora ...... smooth carpeted road it is .....

Enroute to Mingora ......

Start of the journey from Mingora to Kalam

The 1st feel o the newly constructed Motorway between Fatehpur & Bahrain between Mingora & Kalam ...... the background keeps getting more and more fascinating

The 1st glimpse of the snow covered mountains ......

Bahrain (Urdu: بحرین; also spelled Behrain) is a popular hill station located in Swat District of Khyber PakhtunkhwaPakistan, 60 km North of Mingora at an elevation of 4600 ft on the right bank of Swat river. It got its name (lit. "two rivers") because of its location at the confluence of the Daral and Swat rivers.
The region is famous for its riverside tourist resorts and local handicrafts. Bahrain offers a superb view of gushing river Daral and natural waterfalls.
The people of Bahrain are expert in the cottage industry of wood carving, that's why wood work can be seen everywhere in the region. A charming trek can be enjoyed from here up to Daral & Saidgai lakes. It is the cultural centre of the Torwali-speaking community.

Accommodation

Bahrain hosts large number of lodging hotels and restaurants, where one can stay for night and relish the cool breeze of Suvastu river. Similarly, different food huts are working up to late night and serving the people through delicious food dishes.
